Woodlake Police Chief John Zapalac kicked-off his campaign for Tulare County Sheriff with an announcement to an enthusiastic crowd of supporters from throughout Tulare County at his ranch in Lemon Cove on April 13, 2008.
According to Chief Zapalac, “Starting early for the 2010 election gives us the opportunity to properly organize our campaign and engage the voters of Tulare County regarding the issues most important for effective and improved law enforcement.”
John Zapalac has been in law enforcement for 30 years. He worked for the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department from 1981-97; including nine years as a sergeant in the Violent Crimes Unit. He has been Woodlake’s Chief of Police since 1997.
He is dedicated to:
- Continuing with a successful model, in reducing gang activity, juvenile crime and drug issues in rural Tulare County.
- Creating a deputy retention program to assure the continued quality of deputies within the department.
- Being a full-time Sheriff who will restore effective law enforcement within Tulare County.
- Making our youth a priority.
